A hollow metal sphere and a solid metal sphere of equal radii are given equal charges. Which of two will have higher potential.?
Its solid non conducting sphere....bcoz self energy of it is 3kq^2/5R and that of hollow one is kq^2/2R... Self energy is defined as the product of charge and potential and if the total charge on both the spheres is taken to be the same then potential of solid sphere will be the greater one...
If it is metal then charge resides only on surface and if no difference is in shape then both are one and the same!!
I guess its the same for both since potental is dependant only on magnitude of charge and radius of the sphere
