What is an oscillator?

An oscillator is an electronic circuit that generates a repetitive electronic signal or periodic waveforms from a few hertz (Hz) to several gigahertz (GHz). Oscillators are known as wave generators which generate sinusoidal, square, rectangular, sawtooth and trapezoidal wave signals.
