Explain how a zener diode maintains constant voltage across the load.

 

A zener diode behaves as battery during ON state. When a zener diode is connected with a shunt resistance RL and if the voltage across the zener diode is greater than zener voltage VZ, the zener diode is in ON state. Due to change in input voltage or in load resistance, the output voltage across the zener diode does not change. Hence, the zener diode provides constant voltage across load.
