Introduction

Consignment is the process of sending goods by one person to another for the purpose of selling the goods on behalf of and at the risk of the person sending the goods. Consignment is also called as shipment of goods.

  • The person who sends the goods is known as the consignor.
  • The person to whom the goods are sent is called as the consignee.

     

    Example: Y, a businessman of Delhi, sends goods worth ₹1,00,000 to X for the purpose of selling the goods on behalf of and at the risk of Y. Here, Y is the consignor (sender of the goods) and X is the consignee (receiver of the goods).
