Modes of Transportation and Communication

Transportation is generally divided into three modes - land, water and air. The land transport in turn consists of roads, railways and pipelines. Water transport is also divided into three types

(a) River or inland navigation

(b) Coastal navigation

(c) Sea or oceanic navigation

Airways are the latest and the fastest mode of their clienteles.

Transfer of ideas and information from one person to another is called communication.

They are means of personal and mass communication. In the former, we include postcard, letter, telegram, telephone, and now, e-mail. The latter includes books, journals, magazines, newspapers, radio, internet, television, and films. These are of two types:


(a) Print media (i.e., books, newspapers, journals and periodicals) and
(b) Electronic media (i.e., radio, television, films, computers).
