Introduction

We shall now discuss the most important effect of current, the magnetic effect. The remarkable discovery of the magnetic effect of current by a Danish scientist, Hans Christian Oersted, in 1820 has revealed the true nature of magnetism and has given birth to a very important branch of physics called electro-magnetism which deals with the relationship between electricity and magnetism. It is said that Oersted's discovery about the connection between electricity and magnetism is one of the most important landmarks in the history of science.
