Prediction of some Properties of an Element

Taking the example of the element with atomic number 17 we can say that it occupies a position the group VIIA and period 3. So the electronic configuration must be 2, 8,7. So it has seven electrons in the outer most orbit. Its valency is one with respect to hydrogen. From these details we come to know that element with atomic number 17 is a non-metal which forms covalent as well as ionic bond. The nature of oxides will be acidic. Thus we can predict some properties if we known the position of the element in the periodic table.
