Indo-China lies in the east of India and south of China. Indo-China comprises of the territories of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

  • Countries of Southeast Asia received cultural influence from both China and India to varying degrees.

  • Most Southeast Asian countries are influenced mainly by the culture of India with a smaller influence from the culture of China.

  • In Vietnam alone the main foreign influence is from the culture of China and very little from India.

  • Vietnam was also linked to the maritime silk route. This brought in goods, people and ideas. Other networks of trade connected it to places where non-Vietnamese people such as the Khmer Cambodians lived.
