Commutative Property

As like the Closure property, the commutative property also applies for the Whole numbers and Integers. Addition and multiplication are commutative for both Whole numbers and Integers.

Rational numbers
If
a and b are rational numbers, and a + b = b + a, then we can say that addition is commutative. Similarly if , then we say that multiplication is commutative.

(a) ;

Addition is commutative for rational numbers.

(b)

Subtraction is not commutative for rational numbers.

(c)

Multiplication is commutative for rational numbers.

(d) ÷ =; ÷ =

Division is not commutative.

Hence, addition and multiplication are commutative for rational numbers.
