During the colonial rule in India several new art forms, styles, materials and techniques were introduced. These new forms were adapted by Indian artists for local patrons. Just as trade, commerce and other things were influenced by the changing world, even different forms of art changed as they were influence by the changing world.
Painting styles changed considerably during the colonial period. These changes were linked to colonialism and the emerging nationalism.
