There is no love sincerer than the love of food. -George Bernard Shaw

Food is the most essential factor for our survival. The food we take provides us with a number of essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, which play a vital role in our growth. The animals and plants have been the main sources of food for ages. Though these are the main sources for ages, the kind of production which happened during the olden days, would not have been able to keep up with the increase in population. For this reason, a number of other food production/increasing techniques are being invented day by day.

For example, if we take the food needed to serve the population of India, alone, we will need about billions of tonnes of grains every year.

Though, agriculture is the main occupation of the people of India we are still not able to keep up to the mark with the rest of the world in production. We would have all heard about green revolution, which contributed a great deal to the increase in production of food grains. But these kinds of revolution end up in making us use our natural resources more and more, probably until they are depleted. So what we have to keep in mind is that, there must be an increase in the production of food grains, but without any loss to one natural resources.

But how is that possible? There is only way to do this: it is nothing but sustainable practices in agriculture and animal husbandry. So, in this chapter, we will be seeing the ways in which we can bring an improvement in the production of food.
