Let 'u' be the initial velocity of a body which moves with uniform acceleration 'a'.

After 't' seconds let its velocity be 'v'. During this interval of time, the body covers a distance 's'.

It is given that acceleration of the body is uniform.


The average velocity of the body =

Distance travelled by the body in 't' seconds is given by

s = average × time= t ……………. (1)

But v = u + at ……………. (2)


Using equation (2), equation (1) can be written as

s = t
  = t

s = ut+at2
