The Art of Propaganda

The media and language were used very effectively and carefully by the Nazis. The words they termed for their activities were deceptive. For example, they never used the word ’kill’ or ‘murder in their official communications.
  • The terms used by the Nazis
  • Mass killing – special treatment, final solution (for the Jews)
  • Euthanasia – selection, disinfection (for the disabled)
  • Evacuation – deporting people to gas chambers
  • Gas chambers – disinfection areas which looked like a bath rooms with fake showerheads.

Medias was used to win the support of the people and to popularize. Visuals, images, films, radio, posters, catchy slogans and leaflets were used to spread the Nazi ideas. Posters were used to identify the groups that were considered as the enemies of Germans. They were mocked, abused and described as evils. The socialists and the liberals were shown as weak and degenerate and were attacked as malicious foreign agents. Propaganda films like ‘The eternal Jew’ were made only to inculcate hatred for Jews. Nazism worked with the emotions of the people to turn their hatred and anger at the ‘Undesirables’. All these methods were adopted by the Nazis only to make the people believe that only Nazis could solve all their problems.
