An individual’s wants differs mainly due to his age. His age influences his needs and his capacity to buy. Age becomes one of the major characteristics of the population.
Populations Distribution in Terms of Age
Children below 15 years are generally dependent and need to be provided with food, clothing, education and medical needs.
Adults (Between 15 and 59 years)
Working age people are the most economically productive, self sufficient and biologically reproductive group of the population of a country.
The Aged (Above 59 years)
The Aged people may be defined as economically reproductive. They may opt to work voluntarily but are not meant for employment through recruitment.
The total percentage of children and the aged population affect the dependency ration in any population, as they are not productive.
