Types of Quadrilaterals

Let us look at the different types of quadrilaterals drawn below
 

Trapezium

 

A quadrilateral in which one pair of opposite sides are parallel is called a trapezium.                                                               

Kite

A quadrilateral in which two pairs of adjacent sides are equal is called a kite. The diagonals of a kite intersect at right angles.

Parallelogram

A quadrilateral in which both pairs of opposite sides are equal is called a parallelogram.

In a parallelogram
1. opposite sides are parallel
2. opposite sides are equal
3. opposite angles are equal
4. diagonals bisect each other

Rectangle

A parallelogram in which all angles are right angles is called a rectangle.

In a rectangle
1. opposite sides are parallel
2. opposite sides are equal
3. all angles are right angles
4. diagonals are equal
5. diagonals bisect each other

Rhombus

A parallelogram in which all sides are equal is called a rhombus.

In a rhombus
1. opposite sides are parallel
2. all sides are equal
3. opposite angles are equal
4. diagonals bisect each other at right angles
5. diagonals bisect the vertex angles

Square

A rectangle in which all sides are equal is called a square.

In a square
1. all sides are equal
2. all angles are right angles
3. opposite sides are parallel
4. diagonals are equal
5. diagonals bisect each other at right angles
