Support for Socialism

When the socialist ideas spread in Europe they formed the Second International, an international body to coordinate their efforts. The workers in England and Germany formed associations.

Functions of the Association :-

  • Set up funds to help the workers in distress.
  • Demanded reduction in working hours.
  • Demanded the right to vote.

Associations worked very closely with the Socialist Democratic Party which helped the party to win seats in the parliamentary election.

The socialists and the trade unionists formed labour Party in 1905.

Socialist Party was formed.

Till 1914 the liberals, radicals and the conservatives continued to run the government. All that the socialists could do was to help shape certain laws with their ideas.
