The Age of Social Change

The 18th century witnessed the French Revolution. It was a revolution that broke out for the cause of individual rights. There came a sudden change in the society, which was dominated by the Church and the aristocracy and divided into estates and orders. The ideas spread by this revolution restructured many societies, especially in the colonies.

In Europe, some wanted the change to occur slowly and some wanted a radical restructuring of the society. In other words, some were liberals or radicals and the others were conservatives.
