Example

An ice cream is in the shape of a hemisphere mounted on a cone. The radius of the hemisphere is 42 mm and the total height of the ice cream including the filling inside the cone is 10.2 cm. Find the volume of the ice cream.
 

Solution

Radius of the hemisphere = Radius of the cone = r = 42 mm = 4.2 cm

Height of the cone = h = 10.2 – 4.2 = 6 cm

Volume of the ice cream = Volume of the cone + Volume of the hemisphere
