Challenges is Fisheries and Horticulture
Despite the fact that we have huge numbers of livestock, their productivity is very low when compared to other countries. In order to enhance productivity, utilization of improved technology and promotion of good breeds of animals is essential. A sustainable livelihood option through livestock can be promoted by providing good veterinary care and credit facilities to the small and marginal farmers.
The production of the fisheries has improved a lot but there are problems related to fisheries like over fishing and pollution have to be addressed and solved. The existing welfare programs for the fishing community has to be oriented towards long term gains and sustenance of livelihood.
Horticulture has emerged as a viable and sustainable livelihood but in order to ensure that it continues to be so requires investment in infrastructure like electricity, cold storage, market linkages, small scale processing units and technological advancements.
