The power of statistics is its concise, efficient and impressionable nature. Perhaps here itself lies its weakness.
For example, in advertising, statistics may be used to promote the sale of a particular toothpaste or soap. Phrases like "nine out of ten doctors endorse this product" have been used to represent the astounding success of one commodity over another; and yet, the layman is not sure if the product is good for him or her.
Large quantities of data exist in almost every aspect of life, and so too does the quest to turn data into usable information. It may be to answer a philosophical question with collected data, make generalizations about the economy, design a process with the help of available numerical information, or discover the probability of the Chennai Knight Riders winning the IPL trophy. ; in each case, the collection, analysis and presentation of such data fall within the domain of statistics
