Question
7 out of 25

A semi-circle is drawn with AB as its diameter. From C, a point on AB, a line perpendicular to AB is drawn meeting the circumference of the semi-circle at D. Given that AC = 2 cm and CD = 6 cm, the area of the semi-circle (in cm2) will be:

A 32 π

B 50 π

C 40.5 π

D 81 π

E undeterminable

Ans. B

ADC = 90o (Angle in a semicircle)

CD2 = AC × CB

(6)2 = 2 × CB. So, CB = 18

Hence AB = AC + CB = 20

Area of semicircle = 50 π sq. units
