Raises the eyebrows, draws scalp forward and wrinkles the forehead

Procerus

Covers the top of the nose

Depresses the eyebrows and causes wrinkles across the bridge of the nose

Corrugators

Beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi

Draws the eyebrows down and in. It produces vertical lines and causes frowning

Orbicularis Oculi

Completely surrounds the eye sockets

Closes the eyes

Risorius and Buccinator

Risorius-extends from massseter to the angle of the mouth

Buccinator-between the upper and lower jaw

Risorius: draws down the corner of the mouth out and back as in grinning

Buccinator: compresses cheeks and expels air between the lips as in blowing

Masseter

From cheek bone to the outer side of the jaw

Co-ordinates in opening and closing of the mouth chewing muscles

Orbicularis Oris

Forms a flat band around upper and lower lip

Raising and draws back the upper lip and elevates the nostrils as in expressing distaste

Mentalis

Situated at the tip of the chin

Raises and pushes up the lower lip, causing wrinkling of the chin as in doubt or displeasure

Platysma

Broad muscle that extends from the chest and shoulder muscle to the side of the chin

Depresses the lower jaw and lip as in the expression of sadness

10

Scternocleidomastoid

Extends from the collar and chest bone to the temporal bone in the back of the ear

Rotates the head, also bends the head as in nodding
