Frequent Questions

How does Superpulse skin treatment work?

It uses radio frequency energy to heat the tissue below the skin while it keeps the skin surface cool. This leads to immediate collagen contraction followed by gradual collagen tightening .The heating action promotes the growth of new collagen over time. The end result is tighter, firmer skin. The length of time required for the procedure itself will depend on the size of the treatment area. The usual range is between 30 minutes and one hour. While the procedure should not hurt, you may experience a sensation of heat in the treated areas. Patients leave the office looking and feeling great. There are no restrictions in activity following the procedure.

Does skin colour affect the outcome?

Unlike laser procedures, radio frequency energy is unaffected by skin pigment. All skin colours can be safely and effectively treated.

What results can I expect from a Superpulse Facelift?

Results will vary from patient to patient, and your age, treatment area and skin laxity can all affect the outcome.

Will I need a second Superpulse Facelift treatment?

Patients may benefit from 5 sittings after a gap of 3 weeks. We recommend waiting three months before considering maintenance session treatment.

When can I go back to work?

Patients can return to their normal activities immediately. Occasionally patients experience a brief redness that fades within a few hours.

Does the Superpulse Facelift replace the traditional facelift and resurfacing?

The Superpulse Facelift will not replace laser skin treatments or traditional facelift for treatment of all skin conditions or all signs of aging. For example, C02 laser resurfacing is recommended to treat more deeply wrinkled, sun damaged skin and a face-lift may be indicated for skin laxity and bands in the neck.

How safe is Superpulse Skin Treatment?

It is extremely safe. While this may be a relatively new procedure, great effort has been made to make it as safe as possible. There are very rare adverse effects, which we will be happy to review with you at your consultation.

Do I need special preparation?

There is no need to interrupt your usual routine. You may take your usual medications before, during and after the procedure.

Is Superpulse face-lift for everyone?

Because radio frequency is used in these treatments, patients with heart pacemakers are advised not to undergo Superpulse face-lift procedures. The radio frequency may interfere with the heart pacemaker device.

Where on the face is it applied?

Tightening skin in key areas can be advantageous for cosmetic improvement. Treating the forehead can lift the eyebrows and enhance the appearance of the eyes, making the eyes look more open, less tired and more alert. Other areas such as the skin of the cheeks can also be treated to reduce the sagginess that produces deep folds with aging.

Is a Superpulse Facelift painful?

Each time the machine is fired there is a sensation of heat in the area. An anaesthetic cream applied one hour before the procedure will make this quite tolerable. Fortunately, this heat sensation lasts only fractions of a second and is followed by a cold sensation, which also helps minimize the discomfort.

When can I return to normal activities?

Immediately. There is typically no down time. Minimal redness is seen in some patients, but it usually disappears within an hour. There is usually no swelling, bruising or pain afterwards. There is no special care needed after the procedure. You may return to your normal scheduled activities immediately.

How long will the effects last?

Results have been documented to last at least 22 months. But because of the aging process, skin laxity will naturally increase again with time. treatment will suddenly disappear in one day.

Can this be combined with other treatments?

The Superpulse face-lift has been successfully combined with a number of other non-ablative technologies. Patients have combined this Superpulse face lift technology with IPL Photo Facial for treatment of photo aging, red spots and brown spots. Microdermabrasion has been combined as well as BOTOX for resolution of dynamic wrinkles caused by the muscles in the face.

Is it painful?

Each time the device is pulsed there is a brief sensation of intense heat in the skin. An anaesthetic cream applied before the procedure helps to alleviate patient discomfort. Also, the surface temperature of the skin is reduced by using ice packs or cryogen spray before, during and after the application of heat.

What precautions does one need to take after the procedure?
There is no special precaution to be taken after undergoing Superpulse. One can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment. There is no downtime required. One may avoid direct sun exposure as a part of good skin care regime. When will I see results? During the first 30 days, there is contraction of connective tissue-i.e. Collagen & elastic tissue, creating a firmer looking zone to the treated area. Over a 6-month period, there is new collagen & elastic tissue formed thus there is gradual improvement in firmness & contour of the skin. In patients with loose skin, results are seen faster. In patients with more fat, results are slow. Secondly, the layer of fat is not affected by RF, so flabbiness due to fat persists even after treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

4 treatments at an interval of 2-4weeks are enough to give results.

How long will the effects of the procedure last?

Though Superpulse has come to India for the first time, it has been in existence since 2000 in the US. Those who were treated at that time have shown consistent results with no deterioration since then. So, we know that Superpulse lasts at least this long. A touch up treatment can be done after 2-3 years if required.

How safe is it?

The procedure is very safe. However, there is a small risk of burn, blistering and scarring associated with this procedure if the power is too high. Some people experience tingling, burning or soreness for a few days or weeks, especially along the jaw line.

Can I combine RF with other treatment options?

Yes, you can undergo eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for baggy eyelids, botox to improve deep wrinkles, chemical peel for pigmentation.

What are the benefits?

Tighter skin over face, chin & neck, Tightened Jawline, Higher eyebrows Softer forehead lines, scowl lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial crease. Thus it makes one look younger & have beautiful & smoother skin. One has a natural & presentable appearance right after the treatment that just gets better over the next 3 to 6 months. Unlike laser treatments, RF300 works just as well on people with darker skin types as those with light skin types.

What are the limitations?

IT WILL TIGHTEN THE SKIN BUT WILL NOT CHANGE THE BLOTCHY UNEVEN SKIN TEXTURE, PIGMENTATION, MOLES OR VESSELS. Although Superpulse is called a "non-surgical face lift," it is not a substitute for a surgical face lift though it will give considerably good results. Secondly, the dynamic process of aging cannot be stopped. So, one does require a maintenance treatment after 2-3yrs.
