The function of 2,4-DNP is(AIPG 2007)

A Uncoupler of electron transport chain
B Inhibits transport of ADP
C Inhibits complex I
D Inhibits complex II
Ans. A Uncoupler of electron transport chain

Complexes in ETC and inhibitors at each level.

A TP Synthetase = Complex v Oligomycin - binds to stalk of A TP synthetase closing H+ channel and prevents re entry of proton into mitochondrial matrix; pH and electric gradient not dissipated

  1. Uncoupling proteins - occurs in inner mitochondrial membrane e.g. thermogenin (UCP) (intrinsic protein), 2,4-DNP (extrinsic) Cause proton leak without energy generation. pHand electrical gradient dissipated.
