b. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy is also the procedure of choice to confirm or rule out the presence of a metastatic focus or local recurrence.
b. An incisional biopsy is indicated for deep tumors or for superficial soft tissue tumors larger than 3 cm.
c. An incisional or open biopsy is the most reliable of the diagnostic methods, providing accurate histologic diagnosis and grading in more than 95% of soft tissue sarcomas. In addition, the amount of tissue obtained is often sufficient for additional diagnostic studies if necessary.
