A child born at 29 weeks and he was diagnosed zone 1 (grade 2) ROP in both eyes at post conceptional 33 weeks of age. What would be next treatment (AIIMS May 2011)
|A||Urgent photocoagulation in both eyes to removed avascular peripheral retina|
|C||Laser photocoagulation in worsen eye and follow up for other eye|
1. Treatment in rop is indicated when the disease is "threshold disease" which is defined as five contiguous clock hours or eight non-contigous clock hours of stage iii disease [ie with extra-retinal neovascularization], in zone i or zone ii associated with plus disease [ie tortuosity of veins and arterioles].
2. In the above question, the patient is suffering from stage ii disease in both eyes, hence we should keep the patient on a regular follow-up.
3. Though patient has problem in all clock hours but he has stage ii disease for which treatment is follow up.
