Treatment of neonatal hypoglycemia

a. Asymptomatic with blood glucose between20-40mg/dl Direct breast feeding is started. If neonate is unable to suck, expressed breast milk is given. Expressed breast milk should be fortified by 59 sugar per I 00 ml of milk'

b. Symptomatic or asymptomatic with blood glucose <20 mg/dl : Bolus 10%o dextrose 2ml&g is given IV Followed by continuous infusion otO mgltg/minute.-If normoglycemia is not achieved within 24 hours, glucocorticoids (prednisone or hydrocortisonej si'ould be administered. For intractable hypoglycemia, glucagon, epinephrine or diazoxide can be given.
