General Virology and DNA Viruses
A patient has undergone renal transplantation 2 months back and now presented with difficulty breathing. X-ray showed bilateral diffuse interstitial pneumonitis. The probable etiologic agent; (AIIMS May 10)
a. CMV is the most common viral pathogen complicating transplantation.
b. It is usually a reactivation disease due to immunosuppression and occurs typically in the 2nd month. Pneumocystis is rare because of Septran prophylaxis in these patients.
