Differential diagnosis of abrasions-
a. Excoriations on skin produced by ants– a post-mortem artifact, brown erosions with irregular margins of the superficial layers of the skin, present at mucocutaneous junctions, eyelids, nostrils, mouth, ears, knuckles, axilla, groins, genitalia,
b. Excoriations of skin by excreta- inflammation in the napkin area in infants,
c. Pressure sores – in bed-ridden patients,
d. Drying of the skin of the scrotum produces reddish-brown or yellow discoloration resembling abrasions.
