Sterilization and disinfection
All are characteristics of exotoxins except
|B||Neutralized by antibody|
|C||Secreted by both gram-positive and gram negative|
a. Both gram positive and negative bacteria produce exotoxins.
b. Exotoxins are proteins, strongly antigenic, heat labile, can be toxoided, are release by actively multiplying bacteria, are highly potent and different exotoxins have different mechanisms of action.
MECHANISM OF ACTIONS OF SOME EXOTOXINS
- Toxins Acting Via Increase In c AMP: Cholera Toxin, Labile Toxin of ETEC, Pertussis Toxin, Anthrax toxin (Edema Factor-calcium dependent)
- Toxins Acting Via Inhibition Of Protein Synthesis: Diphtheria Toxin, Shiga Toxin, Shiga Like Toxin, EXOTOXIN A OF Pseudomonas
- Toxins Acting By Vagal Nerve Stimulation: Staph Entertoxins, Bacilluc Cereus Emetic Toxin/Cereulide
- Toxins Acting By ADP- Ribosylation: Cholera Toxin, Labile Toxin of ETEC, Diphtheria Toxin, Pertussis Toxin, EXOTOXIN A and EXOENZYME S of Pseudomonas, Bacillus cereus diarrheal toxin
