a. Chagas diseasecaused by Trypanosoma cruzi is also called South American trypanosomiasis.
b. Reservoir host for humans is armadillo and opossums.
c. Infection is acquired by inoculation of metacyclic trypomastigote forms by the feces of reduviid bugs.
d. At the site of entry of the infective form a painless swelling appears. This is called chagoma.
e. Romana’s sign is the chagoma around the eye.
f. Chronic manifestations of this disease are mainly seen in heart as cardiomyopathy and GIT as megaoesophagus and megacolon.
g. Drug of choice is Nifurtimox or Benznidazole.
