Gram Negative Bacilli
All are true regarding salmonella gastroenteritis except

|D||Symptoms appear between 8 -48 hours|
a. Salmonella gastroenteritis, a/k/a →NTS (Non Typhoid Salmonellosis) is cause by non typhoidal salmonella like S. typhimurium and S. enteritides. The foods, which are implicated, include poultry, meat, milk and milk products.
b. The incubation period ranges from 6-48 hrs. It manifests with diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and fever. In severe forms it may manifest as acute cholera like disease or dysentery. The disease occurs due to multiplication of the organism in the intestinal tract.
c. Diagnosis is by culture of the organism from stool or from the implicated foodstuff.
