Gram Positive Bacilli
All of the following are true about bacillus anthrax except: (AIIMS NOV 2012)
|A||Plasmid is responsible for toxin production|
|B||Cutaneous anthrax generally resolves spontaneously|
|C||Capsular polypeptide aids in virulence by inhibiting phagocytosis|
|D||Toxin is a complex of two fractions|
Toxin is a complex of two fractions
a. The two most important virulence factors of anthrax bacillus are capsule and toxin. Both are encoded on separate plasmids, pX02 and pX01 respectively.
b. Capsule inhibits phagocytosis. The capsule of Bacillus anthracis is composed of a polypeptide, a polymer of D-glutamic acid.
c. Anthrax toxin is complex of three fractions (edema factor, lethal factor and protective antigen).
d. Cutaneous anthrax called Hideporter’s disease, is the most common and least severe form of the disease. It often resolves spontaneously.
