a. Traction when applied to an injured limb can overcome the original deforming force and thus can be used to reduce a fracture or a dislocation of a joint.
b. In addition by overcoming the muscle spasm traction can relieves pain and allow the limb to be rested in the best functional position. By itself traction is not useful for overcoming neurological deficit
