All the following are possible disadvantages with the indium scan except (AIIMS Nov 2010)
|B||Requires radiation of leucocytes hence the perceived risk of malignant transformation|
|C||Not helpful in diagnosing acute osteomyelitis|
|D||The indium scan has very low specificity|
Not helpful in diagnosing acute osteomyelitis
a. Indium 111 labelled leucocyte scanning involves in vitro radionuclide labeling and injection of autologous leucocytes followed by imaging 24-48 hours later.
b. A scan is positive when focal accumulation of activity exceeds adjacent normal bone activity. In diagnosing acute osteomylitis the indium scan is sensitive but not specific.
