Cutting of transverse carpal ligament
a. The transverse carpal ligament which froms the roof of the carpal tunnel is the structure that is normal cut to release the tunnel.
b. The palmar sensory branch of the median nerve which lies between the palmaris longus and the radialis tendons should be protected because if it is cut a painful neuroma will result which will require excision subsequently
