Postcoital contraceptive agents interfere with `postovulatory events leading to pregnancy and are known as interceptive. They are chiefly used following rape, unprotected intercourse or accidental rupture of a condom during coitus which takes place around ovulation. These agents are:

a. 2 tablets of relatively high doses of combined pill containing 100μg ethinyl estradiol and 1mg norethisterone are taken within 72 hours of intercourse followed by 2 tablets taken 12 hours later.

b. Ethinyl estradiol 5 mg daily for 5 days starting within 72 hours of exposure. - Stilboestrol 50 mg daily for 5 days.

c. Levonorgestrel 600 μg and d norgestrel .5-4 mg for 5 days.
