Allen test is a clinical test used for determining

The adequacy of the radial or ulnar artery
a. Vice versa also is true, the radial artery is compressed and the hand is clenched tightly expressing the blood from the hand which results in pallor of the hand.
b. If the hand is unclenched while the radial artery is still compressed return of normal skin colour indicates patent ulnar artery.
c. Persistence of pallor indicates absent blood flow through the ulnar artery
