Ans. C
Polycystic ovarian disease

1. The polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is characterized by infertility, hirsutism, obesity, and amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea.

2. In PCOD the normal cyclic flux of FSH, LH, estrogen, and progesterone is absent and ovulation does not occur regularly. These patients are variably symptomatic from the effects of the hormonal imbalance of chronic anovulation.

3. The fundamental abnormality in polycystic ovarian disease is not fully known, but elevated levels of plasma LH lead to enhanced androgen secretion by stromal and thecal cells of the ovary.
