a. The water content of lean body tissue is constant at 71-72 mI/100gm of tissues, but since fat is relatively free of water, the ratio of TBW to body wt. varies with amount of fat present.
b. TBW is some what lower in women than men (due to more fat in female) and in both sexes, the values tend to decrease with age.
c. Normal value, for age 18-40 yrs: 61% for male and 51% for female.
