a. Mild leukocytosis, ranging from 10,000 to 18,000/mm3, is usually present in patients with acute, uncomplicated appendicitis and is often accompanied by a moderate polymorphonuclear predominance.
b. However, white blood cell counts are variable. It is unusual for the white blood cell count to be greater than 18,000/mm3 in uncomplicated appendicitis.
