Earliest sign of death is: (AIIMS May 2012)

Loss of skin elasticity
a. (This question should be answered with caution. The question is very specific. The question asked is about the ‘earliest’ sign and not about the ‘immediate’ sign after death. The changes which take place in the body after death are classified into three-
i. Immediate (Somatic),
ii. Early (Cellular death), and
iii. Late (Decomposition or decay).
b. Immediate changes include- Insensibility & loss of voluntary power, Cessation of respiration and Cessation of circulation.
c. Early changes include- Pallor and loss of elasticity of skin, Changes in the eye, Algor mortis, Post Mortem Staining and Rigor mortis, Late changes include- Putrefaction, Adipocere, and Mummification.)
