1. Patterns of hepatocellular carcinoma:

i. Pseudoglandular

ii. Fibrolamellar-Absence of cirrhosis; eosinophilic hepatocytes; equal sex incidence and better prognosis

2. Most reliable features of HCC are:

i. Bile pigment within the cells

ii. Formation of bile canculi

3. C/F:

i. M.C presenting symptoms are abdominal pain and weight loss; jaundice is rare

ii. Liver is enlarged, serum bilirubin is normal

iii. Elevation of 5 nucleotidase and alpha fetoprotein

iv. HCC is most likely to be diagnosed when

Serum α-fetoprotein is persistently high (>1000 mg/ml)

Presence of high levels of abnormal prothrombin precursor Des -r carboxy prothrombin. It is suspicious of HCC
