Fluid of choice for maintenance during intraoperative period:

5% Dextrose + 1/4 normal saline (D.1 /4 NS)
For maintenance both electrolytes (sodium chloride) and dextrose are required. So dextrose + normal saline reparations are preferred. ONS is hypertonic so not, referred while 0.1/4 NS is isotonic (but some clinicians believe that 5% dextrose may cause hyperglycemia as )ere is increased levels of catecholamines. GH and cortisol during surgery so they prefer balance salt solution.
