Question
18 out of 39

Fluid of choice for maintenance during intraoperative period:

A Ringer lactate

B Normal saline

C 5% Dextrose + normal saline (DNS)

D 5% Dextrose

E 5% Dextrose + 1/4 normal saline (D.1/4 NS)

Ans. E

5% Dextrose + 1/4 normal saline (D.1 /4 NS)

For maintenance both electrolytes (sodium chloride) and dextrose are required. So dextrose + normal saline reparations are preferred. ONS is hypertonic so not, referred while 0.1/4 NS is isotonic (but some clinicians believe that 5% dextrose may cause hyperglycemia as )ere is increased levels of catecholamines. GH and cortisol during surgery so they prefer balance salt solution.
