Following statements is not true regarding mumps:

|B||Incubation period is less than one week|
|C||About 31-40% of infection are clinically in apparent|
|D||Orchitis occurs in about one in males (25%)|

Mumps- caused by one serotyped myxovirus having affinity for glandular and nervous tissue.
a. Disease present with both clinical and subclinical cases (30-40%)
b. Period of transmission 4-6 days before and 7 days after onset of symptoms. Infectivity is maximum just before and at the onset of parotitis and subsides with disappearance of swelling
c. Secondary attack rate is 86 percent one attack gives life-long immunity
d. LP is 18 days
e. C/F affects parotid, testes, pancreas CNS, ovaries prostate etc.
e. Myocarditis, nerve deafness, polyarthritis, hydrocephalus
f. B/L orchitis is rare
