Hemolytic Anemia

  1. Anemia due to increased red cell destruction coupled with ↑ erythropoiesis
  2. Evidence of red cell destruction
    1. PBf- burr cell, tear drop, fragmented cell
    2. Plasma heptoglobin
    3. Plasma hemopexin
    4. ↑ level of plasma hemoglobin -hemoglobinuria or hemosiderinuria [suggestive of intravascular hemolysis]
    5. LDH and carboxy Hb
    6. ↑ level of unconjugated bilirubin and urobilinogen
    7. Red cell survival studies with chromium S2 indicate that red cell survival is reduced. 

Evidence of red cell generation

  1. Polychromasia and nucleated red cell.
  2. Increased retic count.
