If blood gas analysis reveal pH = 7.4, pCO2=30; pO2= 105. This is partially compensated?
If pH = 7.4, pCO2=30; pO2= 105. This is partially compensated metabolic acidosis.
Four categories of acid-base imbalances:
1. Respiratory acidosis—elevation of pCO2 due to ventilation depression
2. Respiratory alkalosis—depression of pCO2 due to alveolar hyperventilation
3. Metabolic acidosis—depression of HCO3– or an increase in non-carbonic acids
4. Metabolic alkalosis—elevation of HCO3– usually due to an excessive loss of metabolic acids
