1. Gestational diabetes is impaired glucose tolerance & is mainly seen at around 24-28 weeks of gestation.

So the organogenesis is over & congenital anomalies are almost never seen with gestational diabetes.

If the lady is overt diabetic, & if sugars are not under control during first trimester, then there is risk of congenital anomalies.

2. Effects of diabetes of pregnancy

b. Increased risk of pre eclampsia, polyhydroamnios

c. Higher risk of infection

3. Fetal effects

a. Recurrent first trimester abortions
