In a 3X4 contingency table, the number of degrees of freedom equals to: (AIIMS Nov 2009)
Degrees of Freedom: Number of observations in the dataset that can freely vary once the parameters have been estimated.
Used while interpreting the Chi square and T test
In a contingency table which is drawn in Chi Square test,
DOF = (r-1) X (c-1), where “r’ is the no. of rows & “c” is the no. of columns
In the above question, it is a 3x4 contingency table, so r = 3 & c = 4, so
DOF = (3-1) x (4-1) = 2x3 = 6
