Intraosseous route is emergency route usually employed in children less than 6 years of age.
A large bore needle is inserted just below the tibial tuberosity or manubrium sterni and the drug/fluid is injected directly into medullary cavity. Rate of absorption of drug is almost equal to intravascular route.
